May 31, 2011 - Howard County, Md. - One person was killed on Sunday in a serious single-vehicle accident that closed down Route 32 for several hours. According to a report at the Baltimore Sun, the accident in Howard County occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday on Route 32 near the Route 29 bridge.
Investigators say the victim was alone in a Nissan Xterra when she lost control of the car in the eastbound lanes of Route 32 in Howard County. The car crashed into a guardrail before hitting a concrete barrier on the bridge. The vehicle then rolled before coming to a stop on the driver's side.
The car sustained major damage, and first responders were forced to shut down Route 32 while they worked to extricate the victim from the wreckage. Investigators believe speed played a role in this fatal crash. Although the driver's exact speed was not disclosed, the investigation determined that the driver was speeding when she lost control of her car.
The victim has been identified as a 21-year-old woman who lived on Norris Lane in Elkridge. She was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the fatal crash.
