July 18, 2011 - Baltimore, Md. - The teenage girl who was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident, near Annapolis last week, was pronounced dead on Thursday. According to a news story from HometownAnnapolis.com, the victim suffered severe head injuries.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl who attended Broadneck High School, was crossing Ritchie Highway with her boyfriend when the teens were struck by a Chevrolet Cavalier driving southbound. The teenagers were on their way to the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Department carnival last Tuesday evening.
Both teens were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital in Baltimore. By Wednesday, doctors had determined that the female victim was brain-dead, but she was kept on life support until Thursday so that her organs could be donated, in accordance with her family's wishes. Seven people received organ donations from the victim.
Police say the teenagers were not in a crosswalk when they were hit, and their dark clothing made visibiility difficult as they crossed the highway. No charges have been filed.
The other victim, a 19-year-old boy, is still in critical condition at Shock Trauma hospital.
