May 9, 2011 - Baltimore, Md. - Two students at Johns Hopkins University were injured on Saturday when they were hit by a car that fled the scene after the hit and run accident in Baltimore.
According to a report at the Baltimore Sun, the pedestrian accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday near the John Hopkins campus.
Police say the victims were walking near the intersection of St. Paul Street and 33rd Street when they were hit by a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. According to a statement from the Dean of the university, a security officer saw the accident and was able to describe the car to police.
Officers pursued the driver and arrested him or her a short distance from the crash site. Police have not released the identity of the driver and it is unknown what charges will be filed.
Both students, a male and a female, were transported by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The male victim suffered the most extensive injuries and is currently in critical condition.
The condition of the female victim has not been released, but university officials believe that their injuries are not life-threatening. After the accident, both victims were conscious and talking, which authorities believe is a good sign about their long-term prognosis.
