June 10, 2011 - Baltimore County, Md. - According to a report at the Baltimore Sun, a 3-year-old boy was killed in a tragic car accident on Wednesday, after 8 p.m., that also injured five teenagers.
Police say a 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a Plymouth Acclaim, driving 4 other teens and a 3-year-old boy back from Patapsco Valley State Park. The driver apparently wanted to go joy riding, and when the other teens refused, he began speeding and purposefully swerving on Ridge Road.
The driver lost control of the car near the intersection of Furnace Avenue, crashing into a tree at a high rate of speed, says police. Few of the passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and the 3-year-old boy was sitting on a relative's lap and wasn't strapped into a car seat. The child was rushed to St. Agnes Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.
All of the teens suffered serious personal injuries, including the 16-year-old driver, who was recently upgraded to fair condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police are considering filing charges against the driver, who they say acted recklessly in this fatal car accident.
