June 13, 2011 - Bel Air, Md. - A serious 4-vehicle-car accident near Bel Air on Friday left 4 people with serious personal injuries. According to a report at the Baltimore Sun, several victims were trapped in the wreckage, which occurred shortly after noon.
Initial reports indicate that a pickup truck was driving southbound on Route 24 when he veered into oncoming traffic near Bel Air and crashed into 3 vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. Occupants in 2 of the cars escaped serious injury, but the driver of a Toyota RAV4, which sustained the brunt of the accident, suffered life-threatening personal injuries.
Both the driver of the RAV4 and the driver of the pickup truck were trapped in the wreckage until first responders were forced to cut the roofs off both vehicles. Police say it took nearly a half hour to extricate the victims. They were both sent to Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital in critical condition.
The other 2 victims were less severely injured and are receiving treatment at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The Maryland State Police is still investigating the car accident.
