June 1, 2011 - Glen Burnie, Md. - A police officer was seriously injured on Friday, shortly after 5 a.m., after he lost control of his cruiser while responding to a call, according to a report at the Baltimore Sun.
Police say the victim, a five-year veteran with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, was on duty at the time of the accident. He was responding to a robbery call on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard when he was cut off by another vehicle near the intersection with Faywood Avenue. As he swerved to avoid a collision, the officer lost control of his cruiser, drove into oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes, and slammed into a row of parked cars along the street. The officer's speed at the time of the car accident was not released, but investigators say his lights and sirens were activated.
The police department is still investigating this serious Glen Burnie car accident. The officer was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in serious condition. The driver of the other car was not involved in the crash and was not injured. That driver has not been identified.
