January 4, 2012 – Baltimore, Md. – A 62-year-old man was hit and fatally injured while leaning off of a sidewalk and stepping into the street later afternoon on Tuesday, January 3.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the pedestrian was standing in the median of Park Heights Ave, near the 3500 block, when the fatal accident took place. According to Detective Nicole Monroe of the Baltimore Police Department the victim leaned out into traffic and was clipped by the side mirror of a passing vehicle.
The mirror caught the victim’s head and the driver of the vehicle stopped and stayed at the scene as paramedics were called. The man was transported to Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His name has not been released pending notification of the family. The driver had a clean driving and vehicle record and initial investigations cite pedestrian error as the cause of the fatal incident.
