June 9, 2011 - Glen Burnie, Md. - A pedestrian was killed on Tuesday, around 2:30 p.m., after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Glen Burnie. According to a report at WUSA 9, the victim has been identified as a man from Davidsonville.
Officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department say the victim was attempting to cross Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard when he was struck by a car traveling northbound. An investigation determined that the pedestrian wasn't crossing in a crosswalk when the accident occurred, but he was very close to a crosswalk that had working safety lights. Paramedics rushed the victim to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital, but he was pronounced dead a shortly later.
The driver of the Chevrolet Impala hasn't been identified, but police say he or she remained at the scene and wasn't at fault. Investigators are seeking to determine if alcohol played a role in this fatal crash, and they're already speculating that the victim may have been under the influence of alcohol. No charges have been filed, as police believe the pedestrian was at fault in this accident.
