July 26, 2011 - Shady Side, Md. - According to a report at the Baltimore Sun, a Glen Burnie man has died from a car accident that happened on Saturday, around 3 a.m. Police believe speed played a role when the driver lost control of his car near Shady Side.
Police say the victim was driving a Saturn, on Shady Side Drive, when he lost control of the vehicle near the intersection with Shadyrest Road. The car veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole on the side of Shady Side Drive. Police say the victim was speeding, which likely contributed to the accident.
The victim has been identified as a 26-year-old man, who lived on Southbridge Drive in Glen Burnie. He was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center to be treated for serious injuries, but was pronounced dead Monday.
Police are conducting a full investigation to determine if anything other than speed contributed to this deadly accident. No other passengers were in the vehicle at the time.
According to the Anne Arundel County police, this is the 18th traffic fatality in the county since the beginning of the year. In 2010, the county saw 27 traffic-related deaths.
