June 7, 2011 - Glen Burnie, Md. - A Brooklyn man abandoned an 8-month-old child after he was involved in a car accident and attempted to flee the scene on foot. According to a report at WBAL Baltimore, police are still searching for the driver. The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Police say the suspect, a 27-year-old man from Brooklyn Park, was driving on 8th Avenue NW when he veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a minivan near the intersection of Mary Wagner Lane.
The driver, who was apparently uninjured in the car accident, ran from the car and was nowhere to be found by the time police arrived at the scene. He left behind an 8-month-old child in his vehicle. The child did not appear to suffer any personal injuries, but he or she was examined at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center. Police have not said if the driver is related to the child.
One passenger in the minivan, a 43-year-old woman, suffered personal injuries and is receiving treatment at Shock Trauma Hospital in Baltimore. Authorities believe she will survive.
Police have released a mug shot of the suspect, as well as several aliases he is known to use. He lives in the Glen Ridge Community Apartments. Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-7LOCKUP.
