Lothian Head-On Car Collision Kills 2

August 24, 2011 - Lothian, Md. - Two people were killed Thursday, August 18, in a head-on collision.

The Baltimore Sun reported that the accident happened at about 6 p.m. on Solomons Island Road. A van was travelling northbound on the roadway when it crossed over the center line near Solitude Court. The van then crashed head-on with a sedan travelling in the opposite lane of traffic.

The driver of the van, Robert Leslie Lynch, 57, and the driver of the sedan, Angela Astin, 47, were killed in the accident. Both were declared dead at the scene.

Lynch and Astin were the only occupants of each of their vehicles. No other injuries or fatalities have been identified in relation with this accident.

The cause of the accident remains to be investigated. Speed is believed to not be the underlying factor in the accident, according to police investigations. Whether or not alcohol was a factor has not yet been determined.
