December 16, 2011 – Baltimore, Maryland – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a light rail train on Monday, December 12, when she stepped onto the tracks. The Baltimore Sun reports that an investigation is underway as the female victim was unable to be identified at the time of the accident.
The crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. and wasn’t near a light rail stop. Terry Owens, a spokesman for the Maryland Transit Administration, couldn’t confirm any details as to why the woman may have been on the tracks in that area and autopsy results are pending. The Baltimore County Police and MTA are investigating all aspects of the accident.
When a pedestrian is struck by a commuter train the results are often fatal due to the catastrophic nature of the injuries that may be sustained. In cases such as these, there can be many parties involved in the accident and a Maryland accident attorney may be necessary to guide you through the process of seeking a wrongful death claim.
