Elderly Brooklyn Man Hit and Killed by Pickup Truck on Hammonds Lane

May 2, 2011 - Brooklyn Park, Md. - A 91-year-old man was killed on Friday when he was hit by a pickup truck while riding on a motorized scooter. According to a report at the Baltimore Sun, the fatal accident occurred Friday afternoon in Brooklyn Park.

Police say the victim was riding his scooter on Hammonds Lane in Brooklyn Park when he attempted to cross the street at the intersection with Upland Street. While in the intersection, the victim was hit by a Toyota Tundra pickup truck and was ejected from his scooter.

Police say the victim, a 91-year-old man from Brooklyn, was traveling in a crosswalk when the accident occurred, but investigators have not said if he was crossing on a green light. The victim suffered serious personal injuries and was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Unfortunately, the man died at the hospital a short time after the accident.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 58-year-old man from Baltimore, was not injured in the collision and has not been cited. The Anne Arundel County Police Department is still investigating this fatal crash, but officers have determined that speed probably did not play a role.
