September 15, 2011 - Crofton, Md. - A multi-vehicle accident involving pedestrians, sent 8 people to the hospital on Saturday night, September 3.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the accident happened on Route 3 near Johns Hopkins Road. Several vehicles collided in the northbound lanes of the road and at least one of the vehicles hit pedestrians. Exact details of how the accident occurred are not clear.
According to Lt. Keith Hamilton, spokesperson for the Anne Arundel Fire Department, a 30-year-old man had to be flown to Prince George's Hospital Center. The man suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in the trauma center.
Hamilton also said that a 13-year-old girl was transported by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Children's Center, where she is in pediatric trauma.
There were 6 other people who were injured in the accident. They were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The severity of their injuries is unknown.
The accident is under ongoing investigation.
